Frequently asked questions

Short answers in UK English. If you are in a hurry, start with privacy, spoofing and “does no report mean safe?”

Is WhoCalledMe free to use?

Yes. Searching UK phone numbers and submitting community reports is free. You do not need an account to search or to report a number.

Does WhoCalledMe only cover UK phone numbers?

Yes. This is a UK-only service for numbers with country code +44. You do not need to choose a country. International numbers outside the United Kingdom are not supported.

Can WhoCalledMe tell me who owns a mobile number?

No. UK law does not allow a public directory of private mobile owners. We show number type, community reports, risk indicators and, where available, numbering-range information. We do not sell subscriber identities.

Does no information mean a number is safe?

No. If a number has no community reports, that only means nobody has reported it yet. It is not evidence that the number is safe or trustworthy.

Can caller ID be spoofed?

Yes. The number on your screen may not be the real source of the call. Scammers can display a bank, HMRC, courier or local number. Treat reports as helpful information, not as proof of who rang.

How do I report a suspicious UK phone number?

Open Report a Number, enter the number, choose a category such as scam or nuisance, and describe what happened. Do not include account numbers, passwords, one-time codes or anyone’s full name and address.

What does a high risk score mean?

A high risk score means there are several community reports and recent negative activity linked to that number. It is based on what people have told us. It is not a finding of criminal activity and should sit alongside your own judgement.

Are searches on WhoCalledMe private?

Yes. Searches do not need a login and are not shown on a public profile. We may keep limited technical data, such as an IP address, to prevent abuse.

What should I do if I think a call is a scam?

Hang up. Do not share codes, PINs or passwords. Call the organisation back on a number from its official website, your bank card or a recent letter. For bank calls you can use 159. Report fraud to Action Fraud, and share the number on WhoCalledMe so other people can see the pattern.

How do I stop nuisance sales calls?

Register your number with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). Block the number on your phone. Report persistent callers here. TPS does not stop every recorded message or overseas scam call.

Can a business claim its official numbers?

Yes. A UK business can request to claim a number, show a verified profile, and respond to community reports. Verification is reviewed. Community reports stay visible and are labelled separately from verified information.

How do I ask for information to be removed?

Use the Remove information page. Tell us the number, your relationship to it and why you want it reviewed. Searching and reporting do not require an account, but you will need a way for us to contact you about the request.

Can I install WhoCalledMe on my phone?

Yes. On Android Chrome, open the site and use Install app or Add to Home screen when offered. On iPhone or iPad, open Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. The icon opens WhoCalledMe like a simple app so you can search quickly.
